In the fall of 2001, Brenda received an e-mail from a literary agent in New Jersey who was looking for an artist to write a basic book on drawing. After eagerly accepting the opportunity to compete for this book contract, Brenda devoted three months to writing and rewriting book proposals, tables of contents, and sample chapters. In early 2002, Brenda was notified that she had won the competition to write and illustrate Drawing for Dummies.

On March 4, 2003, Drawing for Dummies was published by Wiley Publishing, Inc., New York, New York. This heavily illustrated 336 page book has been translated into Dutch, Spanish, and Bulgarian, and is available on various websites and in major bookstores internationally.

In the fall of 2003, Brenda was offered a contract to write a book that specialized on drawing people, for Alpha, a member of Penguin Group USA Inc. The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Drawing People Illustrated was published internationally in August of 2004, and subsequently distributed to major bookstores and websites around the world.

On February 1st, 2005 Brenda was notified that she had won the Book of the Year Award for 2004 (Alpha – Penguin - Pearson Education – Macmillan, in Indianapolis, Indiana) for her book, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Drawing People Illustrated. During the next three years, Brenda will be writing another drawing book for a US publisher, as well as a series of drawing e-books to be published by her own company, Hoddinott Fine Art Publishers, Halifax, NS, Canada.
